The Magpies had another chance when Almiron went dancing through Brighton before hitting a shot that was deflected of a Brighton defender that was saved by Verbruggen. Suddenly, after a terrible mistake by Nick Pope, Brighton took the lead through Evan Ferguson. 1-0! Unfortunately for Brighton that did not faze Newcastle. Gordon passed to Joelinton, who smacked it wide. In the blink of an eye, Brighton were attacking again. Gilmour passed to Ferguson who hit a brilliant shot that bulged in the bottom corner. 2-0! It seemed that Brighton had control of the whole match. Mitoma passed to Ferguson, who smashed it past Nick Pope 3-0! Newcastle got one back in stoppage time but they knew it was not enough to even have a chance of making a comeback.
