THe Holders of the Carabao Cup had another chance to score when Elanga passed it to Tonali who played a lovely clipped ball to Malick Thiaw, who volleyed it to Harvey Barnes, whose volley smashed the crossbar. Spurs had one last chance before half-time when Porro played a brilliant cross from a free-kick that was headed on by Danso and headed straight at the keeper by Richarlison.

Newcastle increased their pressure on Spurs in the second half, when Burn played it to Barnes who cut inside before curling in a fabulous cross that was headed off target by Willock. It felt like that second Newcastle goal seemed inevitable. In the 50th minute, The Magpies doubled their lead when Thiaw passed it to Willock who turned and crossed it in for Woltemade who jumped higher than the keeper, Kinsky to head the ball into the net. 2-0! Tottenham had a huge chance to get back into the game when Spence played the ball to Brennan Johnson, who passed it to Simons bring space for Pape Sarr whose shot was saved brilliantly to his right by Aaron Ramsdale. The Europa League winners had another chance to score when Porro played a super cross into the box that was flicked on by Richarlison towards goal but it was calmly smacked away by Ramsdale. The game hadn’t necessarily ended yet when Newcastle had another chance to score when Schar crossed in an inviting ball that volleyed on by Elanga but blocked for a corner by Kevin Danso.

Newcastle ended the game with 47.1% of possession, with Tottenham having 52.9%. The Man of the Match Award went to Sandro Tonali. Newcastle play go to the London Stadium to face West Ham and Tottenham look forward to a London derby against their rivals as they welcome Chelsea to the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.

MATCH OF THE WEEK: Aston villa 1-0 man city

Aston Villa beat Manchester City on Sunday to win their 4th consecutive win. In a tight match Matty Cash scored a spectacular volley from a corner and the Villains did brilliantly throughout to stop Erling Haaland and Man City.
