It bounced out to Tonali who volleyed it to Pedro Porro who skilled past one before hitting a powerful shot that was blocked by the sliding Lewis Hall. Another debutant was thrown into the picture Omar Marmoush volleyed it into the side netting free from a corner. CLOSE! The home side nearly scored again from the corner when Fernandes whipped it in a Van Hecke rose highest to a header that was again saved by the Newcastle goalkeeper.

VAR came into the picture again when Marmoush seemed to have been fouled by Malick Thiaw when Porro whipped it in and he got the to the ball first before being clattered down. However VAR wiped it away immediately. However just when Spurs were taking control of the match, disaster struck. The Magpies took the lead when Nico Gonzalez played a brilliant cross field pass to Dedic who headed it along to Elanga who twisted past Tonali before curling a low shot that went in off the post. 0-1! Newcastle scored again only 10 minutes later when Lewis Hall played a fantastic cross from a corner to Woltemade who headed it to Wissa who flicked it past Kinsky and into the bottom corner. 0-2! Tottenham had one more chance to get something out of the game when Matheus Feranandes twisted and turned at Newcastle before whipping in a cross for Marmoush whose volley went straight at the keeper.

Tottenham ended the match with 57.5% possession beating, Newcastle’s 42.5%. The Man of the Match Award went to Elanga with a 8.33 rating after a scintillating display. What Next? Tottenham go to the City Ground to face Forest on Saturday while Newcastle go back to St James park to face Bournemouth on the same day.
